worship? anyone?

have you ever sat in an a church service where the people pull out the hymnal and sing solemnly as if at a funeral? empty of emotion, they sing the words on the page, not comprehending (or caring to notice) the meaning of the lyrics. that's about how i felt northpoint was this morning. the band was wonderful, the songs meaningful, and yet the people starred at the screen. i'm serious. i don't think i heard a single person singing. they all stood there with blank stares and almost in a vegetative state, as if they were on their couches watching saturday morning cartoons (minus the emotion). which got me to thinking, if we really believed all this stuff we say we believe, why don't we have passionate worship? it really bothered me.

and then came the time for "turn around and meet the person next to you...shake a hand or two" bit. normally, i strike up conversation with someone, however small and meaningless it may be...but i quickly found out that they don't even care to know your name. a quick handshake and a brisk "hi" was almost asking too much.

and, of course, as usual, i ended up going on the sunday he didn't preach...the sunday where he introduces plans for a new building. i have a knack for that somehow.

oh, and about half way through the sermon, i finally figured out that he wasn't actually there. it was one of those hi-resolution things. i was like, "oh my gosh, he's not there! i JUST noticed."

okay, wow...that was a long post. well, i'm off to the movies. ta, ta!
